Guiding Star : Early Australian 15ct Star Set Old Mine Cut Diamond Ring by Aronson & Co. of Melbourne

Sold

An unusual solitaire ring, combining several popular styles from the mid to late 1800’s into a striking and easy to wear piece. Modelled in 15ct gold, with wide face that includes engraved flourishes, cut out sections and a star set old mine cut diamond. A delightful one of a kind piece that remains as wearable and as endearing as she was when she was made oh so long ago in the Australian colony of Melbourne.

Manufacture:
Modelled in my very favourite shade of antique gold – the warm not-quite-rose hue of 15 ct. The ring is hallmarked to the inside of the band with the recognisable series of marks used by the Manufacturing Jewellers Association of Victoria, including the makers mark of the flag for Aronson & Co. and 15, as well as the fleece mark. The fleece make is distorted and it does look like the ring may have been cut through this mark at some point a long time ago.

The diamond is a bright and white old mine cut with a diameter of 3.5mm (approximately 0.15 carats, measured in the setting). Under magnification you can see a sprinkling of very small carbon inclusion freckles, but these are not noticeable with the naked eye and do not prevent the stone from sparkling as she should.

The face of the ring is approximately 15mm long x 8.62mm wide. The band measures 5mm at the shoulders, tapering to 2.5mm at the back of the band. There is a little thinning to the back of the band, the minimum thickness is 0.8mm so she still has oodles of wear left. Weighs 2.8 grams

Size J1/2 or 5.25
resizable within reason, but please do take care of the hallmarks.

Condition:
In really lovely antique condition with no faults to note. Ready for immediate and everyday wear.

**please note that the antique ring box is for display purposes only and is not included in the sale.
