Glorious Imposter : Victorian Revival Earrings in 14ct Rose Gold

Sold

I admit it, I was completely fooled by these earrings.
I thought *for sure* these were genuine Victorian era Etruscan Revival earrings from the 1800’s. It wasn’t until I spent a little time with my loupe that I realised these delicious rose gold dangles are faithful imposters made in Soviet Russia in the Victorian style, circa 1964.

I do have a lot of praise for these lovely dangly treasures. Of course I was a bit disappointed that they were not original Victorian pieces (as those old lovelies are worth a tidy sum), however there are advantages to these being much younger doppelgängers, for example: they are much more robust, you can wear them without fear of damage as the components are all in most excellent wearable condition, and they are a fraction of the price as pieces twice their age.
On top of that, and much more importantly, they are an absolute delight to wear! The long shepherd’s hooks are very secure, the weight is just right to give the appropriate amount of dangle as you move and they are that glorious rose gold colour that Russian jewellery is famous for. All the look of glamorous Victorian Etruscan Revival earrings from the 1880’s but at a fraction of the price. Nothing foolish about that 🧡

Made in 14ct rose gold, the earrings have a drop of 41.5mm. They measure 15mm wide and 7mm deep, They have a combined weight of 5.9 grams for the pair.

Hallmarked 583 to the back of the central disk, with further Soviet Russian hallmarks on the hook identifying the piece as having been made in 1964.

There is a little video of these earrings on my Instagram account @secret_histories, or you can see them online here.
