Genteel Utility : 1898 Sterling Silver Trombone Link Watch Chain

A heavy antique watch chain circa 1898 in all original condition with two dog clips and hallmarks on every link.

This type of chain was originally worn by gentlemen to secure their pocket watches, but is now extremely fashionable when worn as a ladies necklace.

Manufacture:
Handmade in Sterling silver, the chain measures 45.5 cm (almost 18″) and weighs 24.4 grams. The long links measure approximately 24.25mm x 5.5mm x 1.6mm each, and the short links are approximately 7.4mm x 6.1mm x 1.6mm. Each link is hallmarked with the English lion passant for sterling silver.

The matching dog clips are both in excellent working condition. They are hallmarked with the lion passant and the gothic y which dates the piece to 1898.

Condition:
In lovely antique condition, I have given it a light hand polish to preserve the aged patina, but it could be brought to a bright shine by your local jeweller if desired.
