From The Heart : Early Australian Art Nouveau Large Puffy Heart Pendant by Aronson & Co.

Pleasingly plump and juicy delicious, this 9ct yellow gold “puffy” heart is made by early Australian jewellery firm Aronson & Co. of Melbourne, Victoria. Dating to the turn of the 20th Century (circa 1900) it features graceful hand engraving in the Art Nouveau style. At the centre of the pendant a glowing red stone is set into a star setting.

The heart is a large size for heart pendants of this era, which usually tend towards the dainty. It has been “bloomed” in higher carat gold to give it a matte appearance and buttery gold hue. To the back are a full set of crisp early Australian hallmarks.

Manufacture: 
Hollow in construction yet sturdily made, this pendant is modelled in 9ct gold, with an antique ‘bloomed’ plating in 18ct. It is hand engraved to the front with an Art Nouveau motif.

The gemstone in the centre of the pendant is a garnet topped doublet imitating a ruby. Garnet topped doublets are commonly found in early Australian jewellery, this stone is original to the jewel. The doublet measures 3.3mm in diameter.

On the reverse are the early Australian hallmarks for Aronson & Co. of Melbourne of a flag, number 9, and wheat sheaf. The model number M2 is also present.

The pendant measures 23.25mm (not including the bail) x 19.6mm x 8.6mm.
Weighs 2.2 grams.

Condition: 
In excellent antique condition with no visible signs of wear. It looks as if this pendant was tucked away safely and rarely, if ever, worn.
