Forever & Always : Weighty Rope Ring in 9ct Gold

♥Sold♥

In the days before locomotives and automobiles there was a lot more rope in everyday life: it hoisted sails, secured the load, tethered your horse and tied your boots. Knot lore was a necessity & appreciation for a sturdy length of cord was universal.

It’s not surprising that this most necessary and utilitarian article should find its way into sentimental jewellery. It stood for strength and steadfastness, for endurance and faithfulness. Ropes were made by hand and used by hands, over and over and over – trusted to keep the course.

This golden coil of rope has also been made by hand. I love how the jeweller left little gaps where the lengths of gold cross over each other – a little detail that elevates this ring from others.

It’s hard to say for sure just how old this lovely old piece is. The hallmarks simply say 9ct. (yes, there is a curious little full stop) I haven’t seen this mark before so I’m going to call it vintage rather than antique out of caution. I believe it was made before the middle of the 20th century. Most likely Australian made.

It’s a fabulous stacker or the perfect vintage wedding band for those romantics amongst us 💛 It is super comfortable and an absolute delight to wear. It has been professionally polished and is ready for immediate everyday wear.
