Fern & Flower : Edwardian Marquise Cut Diamond Conversion Ring in 18ct and Platinum

♥Sold♥

A stunningly unusual Edwardian Era marquise cut diamond ring in platinum topped 18ct gold. I dreamed about this piece for 3 years, but it wasn’t until recently that I felt I had finally found a jeweller who could manage the conversion that it deserved.

The face of the ring was originally an elegant bar pin. Usually bar pins are completely straight, but this piece had a curve to the central diamond section, and an undercarriage, making it a potential candidate for a ring conversion. The original pin was beautifully made with a handmade brooch clasp only seen in the very finest pieces from the early 1900s. It was a difficult decision to transform it, but as it was obvious it had seen very little wear in the last 120+ years I felt it was going to be much more loved in the next 120 as a ring. It has been sympathetically converted to a romantic diamond ring with a handmade 18ct gold band, and I honestly could not be happier with the result. It’s very difficult to let it go, but I can tell this piece has a wonderful life waiting for it.

Manufacture:
The central marquise cut diamond has been assessed by an independent gemologist as being VS in clarity and G-H in colour. It measures 6.1mm x 3mm. The diamond is held securely in a bezel setting, and flanked by leafy fronds in platinum topped yellow gold with milgrain details and grain set with rose cut and single cut diamonds.

The handmade setting includes a delicate undercarriage which allows the maximum amount of light to reach that very special diamond, letting it sparkle as it should. We rhodium plated the platinum top for an added layer of protection. The original section bore no hallmarks, which is not unusual for pieces of this era, however we have hallmarked the inside of the new band with 750 for 18ct gold.

The face of the ring is 7.3mm x 17.8mm. Sits 3.3mm high on the finger.
Weighs 3.2 grams.

Size M or 6.25, can be resized larger but not smaller.
Resizing is included, please let me know what size you require at checkout, but do be aware that our jeweller is on holidays until mid January.

Condition:
In as-new condition. The diamond is free from any chips or scratches. There are no signs of wear – the milgrain remains crisp and the small diamond accents are all original and securely set.
Ready for immediate and everyday wear. It would make a stunning engagement ring.
