Eternal Bloom : Soviet Russian Flower Ring with Old Cut and Rose Cut Diamonds in 14ct Rose and White Gold

♥Sold♥

The Russians made absolutely breathtaking Art Nouveau jewels, graceful and sinuous.

From what I’ve read online (and please feel free to correct me if this is wrong) it was traditional for Russian marriage proposals to be made with flowers, and not with a ring as it is done in the West. Perhaps as the cultures co-mingled the brilliant Russian jewellers combined both traditions into these beautiful flower rings.

This sweet flower ring was made in homage to the Russian Art nouveau style, it is hallmarked on the outside of the band for 1982, but is set with antique diamonds.

EDIT: I have been corrected! I have been informed that this ring wold not have been worn as an engagement ring as it is not customary to wear an engagement ring in Russia at all, and wedding rings are worn on the right hand. It is customary for girls to be given special jewels for milestone birthdays such as their 16th, 18th or 20th birthday and also upon the birth of her first child. This lovely bloom is likely to have been given as such a gift.

Manufacture:
Made in 14ct two-tone rose and white gold, and set with an old cut diamond in the white gold flower and two rose cut diamonds in the swirling leaf, this vintage piece has classic Soviet Bloc hallmarks on the outside of the band, including the date mark for 1982 and the assay mark for the city of Kharkov (Ukraine).

The diamonds are obviously much older, likely reclaimed from an antique jewel. (Jewellery has always involved repurposing and recycling. Can’t waste a good thing!) The old cut diamond has a diameter of 2.7mm and the rose cuts are approximately 2mm in diameter each, giving the ring an approximate combined diamond carat weight of  0.15 carats.

One of the things I love about Russian flower rings is how cleverly they are made. The band is purposefully designed with one side slightly higher than the other so that it fits to the contours of the ring finger on your left hand so that the flower will sit straight along the length of your finger. Such attention to detail 🧡  And and the quintessential Russian rose gold colour 💕 such a treat!

The flower measures 18mm from top to bottom, and the floral motif is 1mm wide. The ring sits 7.14mm high on the finger. Weighs 4.2 grams

Size O or 7.25
resizable, but please do take care of the hallmarks.

Condition:
In outstanding vintage condition with almost no signs of wear. Ready for immediate and everyday wear. Despite its delicate appearance this ring has been made for daily wear.
