Equilateral Iridescence : Art Deco Morpho Butterfly Pendant in Sterling Silver

♥Sold♥

The magic of Art Deco Morpho butterfly wing jewellery never fails to astonish me. Each jewel has its own character, it’s own special shimmeryness. This diamond shaped pendant features deep blue iridescent butterfly wing, with hints of purple, under domed glass and set in Sterling silver.

Morpho butterflies are among the largest in the world, with a wingspan of 7.5 to 20 cm. The iridescence in their wings is caused by the structure of the wings which create colour through diffraction and interference. It’s a fascinating phenomenon (if you’re interested this page has a good explanation). Morpho butterflies are still found in the wild – I have heard stories of people traveling to South America to be present for the mass emergence of the butterflies in their native forests. Wouldn’t that be a dream!

Manufacture:

In classic Art Deco elegance, the diamond shaped pendant is suspended from an elongated bail. A subtly detailed border of silver follows the bezel setting, holding the butterfly wing and it’s domed glass casing securely.

The pendant measures 31.6mm (not including the bail) x 28.9mm x 5.9mm.
Weighs 4.9 grams

Hallmarked 925 to the back of the pendant for Sterling silver.

A 39.5cm / 15.5″ vintage sterling silver box link chain is included.

Condition:
In ideal antique condition with no faults to note.
Please make sure that this pendant is never submerged in water as this may damage the delicate butterfly wing irreparably.
