Edwardian Elegance : Moonstone Negligée Drop Necklace in 9ct by Wendts

Sold

Astonishingly beautiful in its simplicity, this delicate necklace features three top quality blue flash moonstones in an antique 9ct yellow gold Edwardian setting, circa 1901 – 1910. The chain has recently been replaced with a brand new 9ct chain in keeping with the style of the piece.

The negligée style of necklace originated during the Edwardian Era. It consists of two irregular, asymmetrical drops that are connected to a central pendant. This example uses a favourite gemstone of the Edwardian era – the moonstone – to stunning effect.

This necklace was made by early Australian Jewellers Wendts of Adelaide, a family business originally established by Jochim Wendt in 1854 and carried on by his family until the 1980s. Wendts won national and international acclaim after exhibiting in international exhibitions. Pieces made by the Wendts family have been commissioned by the Government of South Australia to be presented to Queen Elizabeth II.

All three moonstones are verified natural by a certified gemologist. They are eye clean with no visible inclusions and seem to glow from within as all good moonstones do. These stones all have a beautiful blue schiller which is particularly visible when worn. The largest moonstone measures 13.8mm x 7.8mm. The moonstone on the shorter drop is 10.6mm x 6mm and 11.4mm x 7mm on the longer drop.

The necklace is 44cm / 17.3″ long.
The total drop is from the top of the central moonstone to the bottom of the longest dangle is 50mm.
It weighs 4.8 grams.

In remarkable antique condition, ready for immediate wear.
