Daisy & Fern : Early Australian Wide Gold Engraved Band by Stevenson Bros. in 18ct

Sold

Dating to the turn of the 20th Century, Circa 1890 -1910 this is a little slice of early Australian jewellery history in an extremely wearable 18ct gold package. The wide gold band is hand engraved with a pattern of daisies and fern leaves, with an un-monogrammed cartouche waiting for your personalisation.

Made by the highly regarded Stevenson Brothers of Adelaide, this band is not only appealing for its aesthetics but is also a delight for any collector of early Australian jewellery. Unlike most other early Aussie jewellers, the Stevenson’s were born in Australia in the 1850s and apprenticed in Melbourne. Their work is regarded as some of the finest & my Australian jewellery books froth over them.

The daisy has many symbolic meanings: it is said to represent innocence or cheerfulness, or (my favourite) True Love because because each daisy flower is really two flowers blended together in harmony. Daisy is often paired with ferns, which symbolise sincerity. If that’s not a romantic ring of dreams then I don’t know what is.

Manufacture:
Modelled in 18ct yellow gold and hand engraved to the outside of the band. The inner edge is bevelled for a comfort fit. Hallmarked 18ct Stevenson to the inside of the band. The ring is 6.61mm wide, 0.75mm thick and weighs 3.2grams.

Size O1/2 or 7.25 on the mandrel, but will fit smaller due to the width. I would suggest if you usually wear a size M1/2 – N1/2 / 6.5 – 7 this would fit well.
Not resizable.

Condition:
Signs of wear commensurate with age and use. No signs of repair or resize. This ring has been professionally polished to a high shine and is ready for immediate and everyday wear.
