Dating to the time of Australia’s Federation on January 1st 1901, this brooch features one of Australia’s most recognisable birds, the Kookaburra. Modelled in 9ct rose gold, with hallmarks for early Australian jewellery firm Aronson & Co. who traded from 1878 -1915. Brooches like this one were worn as patriotic symbols in support of the six colonies of Australia joining to form the Commonwealth of Australia.
The kookaburra is a type of kingfisher, with a unique song that sounds like laughter. It is found all over Australia, and often in my back yard.
