Blue Beauty : Antique 15ct Locket with Blue Enamel and Hand Engraving

♥Sold♥

A sweet and sentimental antique glass-backed blue enamel locket in 15ct yellow gold.
I’ve had some trouble dating this piece. I would associate the hand engraving and the blue enamel with the Victorian Era, and the glass backed compartment is definitely more common in 19th Century lockets than those from the 20th Century – however round lockets were favoured in the early 20th Century and the very sweet portrait inside the locket dates to the Edwardian Era. A lovely little mystery.

Manufacture:
The locket is made in 15ct yellow gold. There are no hallmarks present, but it has been XRF tested to verify the gold content.

The front of the locket features arabesque hand engraving, filled with opaque robins egg blue enamel. A round glass panel with a gold bezel is friction-fit to the reverse of the locket. You can choose to wear it with either side facing out. The glass section will ease out with gentle coaxing and the photograph is easily removed. The inside of the locket has also been enamelled, but it is damaged in places. There is ample room to transform this locket into a shaker with the addition of some gemstones, or to keep a note or other small memento inside.

The locket measures 28.3mm from the top of the bail to the bottom of the locket x 20.5mm wide x 5.75mm deep. Weighs 3.9grams

Condition:
In beautiful antique condition, this locket is without defect to the outside surfaces. The hidden enamel inside the locket has some losses in places, however this is not visible if you choose to keep a photograph inside the locket window.
Ready for immediate and everyday wear.
