Blossom : Victorian Moonstone, Emerald and Ruby Cluster Ring in 18ct

Sold

A sweet and sincere cluster ring from the Victorian Era, circa 1840-1860 made in 18ct yellow gold. This one has been a very special part of my personal collection for a number of years. I fell head over heels in love with it when I first saw it, but it took me a good while to be able to make it mine and I’ve cherished it ever since.

Manufacture:
Four moonstone petals surround a natural emerald heart with small natural ruby accents, set into 18ct yellow gold with decorative golden balls. Each of the hand cut stones is held in its own collet. Split shoulders lead to a substantial half-round band. This sentimental ring originally held a small locket window at the back, which has been misplaced over time.
The emerald cut emerald measures 3mm x 2.15mm, each cushion cut natural rubies have a diameter of approximately 1.23mm each. The hand cut stones are all deeply saturated in colour. The moonstones have a lovely adularescence, two with more of a blue flash than the others – they each have a diameter of 3.25mm.

Hallmarked 18ct to the inside of the band.

The face of the ring measures 10.53 x 9.77mm. The band is 2mm wide and 1.34mm thick. The ring sits 4.8mm high on the finger.

Size M or 6.25
Resizable

Condition:
In lovely and wearable antique condition, the emerald and rubies have wear to the facets commensurate with age, but only noticeable under magnification. I suspect the moonstones are replacements as they show very little wear compared to the other gemstones. It would have been more in keeping for the period for there to be pearls where the moonstones now are, but the effect is magical.

No signs of repair or resize to the gold mounting. Suitable for immediate and everyday wear. As with all old rings, please wear with care and avoid immersing in water.
