Andromeda : Antique Opal Doublet Starburst Ring in 9ct Rose Gold

♥Sold♥

A striking and unusual ring dating to the early 20th Century circa 1900-1920, featuring a central Australian Opal Doublet which is bezel set into a rayed star setting, with split shoulders and a half-round band all in solid 9ct rose gold.

The opal doublet is of the very early variety with a good size piece of opal cemented to a white potch backing. It has an astonishing array of deep colours, with pink, blue and read being the predominant hues, with a liberal sprinkle of electric green. The doublet measures 10mm x 7.5mm. There is a deep scratch to the back of the doublet, but it doesn’t appear to have any visible effect on the face of the opal. Please do keep in mind that opals are soft gemstones and will scratch or chip if treated roughly. It is advisable to avoid submerging opal doublets (or triplets) in water as this can cause problems over time.

The face of the rose gold ring measures 14.8mm x 11.7mm and has a low profile when worn, sitting 3.5mm high on the finger. It is hallmarked 9ct to the inside of the band. The ring weighs 2.7 grams.
