Description
A striking and unusual ring dating to the early 20th Century circa 1910, featuring a central Australian Opal Doublet which is bezel set into a rayed star setting, with split shoulders and a half-round band all in solid 9ct rose gold.
The opal doublet is of the very early variety with a good size piece of opal cemented to a white potch backing. It has an astonishing array of deep colours, with pink, blue and read being the predominant hues. The doublet measures 10mm x 7.5mm.
The face of the rose gold ring measures 14.8mm x 11.7mm and has a low profile when worn, sitting 3.5mm high on the finger. It is hallmarked 9ct to the inside of the band. The ring weighs 2.7 grams.
