1897 : Victorian 15ct Old Cut Diamond and Pearl Ring

♥Sold♥

A magical mixture of the most sought after motifs from the Victorian Era: a bright and sparkly old cut diamond in a star setting, a graduating row of antique pearls, crisp English hallmarks all wrapped up in 15ct gold. This delightful ring dates to 1897 and is as whimsical as they come. Quite likely once an engagement ring, this piece has been a treasured heirloom for the last 125 years.

Almost a signet ring, almost a gypsy ring, almost a pearl half hoop, this ring is an exciting amalgamation of styles into a very unique and infinitely wearable jewel. Pearls are symbolic of purity and diamonds of eternity, the combination of stones represents faithful and enduring love.

Manufacture:
Made in 15ct gold with the unmistakable luscious hue that hovers between yellow and rose gold. The star of the show is a bright and lively 2.7mm old cut diamond set into a star setting in a signet-type plaque. A scalloped and gently tapering band flows from the square plaque, set with graduating antique natural pearls, held in place with bead settings. All of the pearls appear to be original to the ring, and are in good antique condition.

The inside of the band has a crisp set of English hallmarks for 15ct gold, Birmingham assay and the date letter x for 1897.

The face of the ring is 6mm wide, tapering to 2.5mm at the back of the band.
Sits 1.7mm high on the finger.
Weighs 2 grams.

Size K or 5.5
somewhat resizable by your local bench jeweller, but please do mind the hallmarks.

Condition:
In absolutely beautiful antique condition with no signs of repair or resize. The smallest of the pearls have lost some of their nacre, which is only visible under magnification and to be expected in a ring of this age. Ready for immediate wear.
